Christmas Lights Sat, 1st Dec 2007

Dave and I took the kids into Glasgow City Centre to see the Christmas lights. We parked 5 minutes away (for free), and strolled to George Square with the baby in the pram. It was dark and drizzly, but it just didn’t matter; it was magical! Olivia loved the whole spectacle — her eyes widened in amazement at all the colours and lights.

It has to be said that the city has got it right. For years — in fact, for most of my life — I have been ashamed and embarrassed by the city’s Christmas Display, but no longer! It was fabulous! There was an elevated ice rink filled with skaters all having great fun. There was a Nativity scene (in a protective glass ‘shed’), and a fun fare — or “shows” as they are locally known.

The ‘shows’ were served by lots of good food and drinks wagons – and very large toilet blocks too. We liked the way it was planned out with ramps and paths avoiding the statues and other more normal bits of the square.

There was a Merry-Go-Round, and Olivia wanted to go on it — so Dave stood by with David Paul in the pram while I went round with Oli. She adored it! She stayed on for another go, so I jumped off and let Dave on. As this was his first ever Merry-Go-Round (and Olivia’s second shot), I took a commemorative picture. Aw!

We then went for a nice meal before getting home and lighting a nice fire. December is finally here — and we can hardly wait for Christmas!
