Yay! Olivia is going to be soooo happy that we have tickets for her to see Lazy Town live!

[Picture of Promotional Lazy Town material] [Picture of Olivia as Stephanie from Lazy Town]

She completely loves the Stephanie character (Julianna Rose Mauriello) , and dances about the room wearing the pink Stephanie wig Ruth got her! I am considering getting the CD from the shops… According to the Hardcore Dance Music Website www.gtvrecordings.com

Smashing into the chart at number 4 last year, Bing Bang (Time To Dance) trounced the competition as well as holding off superstars Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado and Beyoncé.

Legendary producer Mike Stevens the man behind the dance mix of Bing Bang (Time To Dance) is also Take That’s Musical director on the current project (he even performed with them on their recent An Audience With TV show). So Gary Barlow and Sportacus have more in common than you would think!!!!!

You’ve heard the single – now buy the album! The LazyTown Special Edition album is the definitive collection of 41 dazzling pop tracks.

All the favourites including ‘Cooking By The Book’, ‘You Are A Pirate’ and ‘Welcome To LazyTown’ plus a bonus DVD of karaoke videos.

Ruth has often visited the Lazy Town page at the BBC (CBeebies) to print out Stephanie and Robbie Rotten for Oli to colour with her crayons and pencils, but it was when she got her the wig, mobile phone and bag that things ‘took off’.

The pink Stephanie bag plays tunes to dance to for as long as you wear it. If you stand still, or put it down, the music stops. Each tune just loops, but between each tune Stephanie says encouraging things.

Olivia was pressing the button to cycle through the tunes/ speech/ tune to the tune she wanted and when Stephanie’s voice said “You’re such a good dancer!”. Ruth was quite moved to hear her daughter say “Thank You Stephanie” to this pink bag!

It’s fun too, mainly because Olivia says “I’m Stephanie” then points to me and says, “You’re Robbie Rotten” or “You’re Stingy”!

[Picture of Lazy Town Poster at The King’s Theatre, Glasgow]The concert is at The King’s Theatre near Charing Cross, Ruth and I are pretty excited because we’ll be sharing Olivia’s first theatre experience! It’s in October, so we’re hoping her fascination will last until then!

The whole Lazy Town thing is quite a phenomenon as it happens. The creator, owner and director (etc etc) is Scandinavian gymnastic champ Magnús Scheving who plays superhero Sportacus. It is made in Iceland and is an expensive High Definition TV production. It airs on Nickelodeon in over a hundred countries — their website explains:

Stephanie, an optimistic 8-year-old with bright pink hair, comes to live in LazyTown and meets a zany mix of townspeople including the world’s laziest super-villain, Robbie Rotten.

Fortunately for Stephanie, LazyTown is also under the watchful eye of Sportacus, an athletic, super-fit, slightly-above-average super hero, who runs, jumps, flips and flies in his incredibly futuristic Airship to help the inhabitants of LazyTown battle Robbie’s latest lazy schemes.

LazyTown aims to INSPIRE and MOTIVATE kids to get them to make healthy choices in their lives.

As far as Olivia is concerned, the show is all about Stephanie, bright colours, funny puppets, great music and lots of dancing and running around!

Ruth and I appreciate the overall message and that Sportacus leads by example rather than by overtly preaching. We do not have a problem with Olivia’s eating habits; she scoffs fruit and veg no bother, but we’re sure the show will keep her on the straight and narrow. I have not seen the show properly, but I love the clips I’ve seen on YouTube — especially these two…

Cooking By The Book — which Olivia loves too because it features her heroine, Stephanie.

Lyrics:
I’ll pile on the candy,
It’s such a pretty sight
It makes the food taste dandy
But my tummy hurts all night

I’ll put in some ingredients
But keep the rest for me
I’m not just disobedient
I’m careful, can’t you see?

It’s a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake
If the way is hazy,
You gotta do the cooking by the book
You know you can’t be lazy
Never use a messy recipe,
The cake will end up crazy
If you do the cooking by the book,
Then you’ll have a cake
We gotta have it made,
You know that I love cake
Finally, it’s time to make a cake!

Making food is just like science,
With tools that blend and baste
And every fun appliance
Gives the food a different taste!

It’s a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake
If the way is hazy,
You gotta do the cooking by the book
You know you can’t be lazy
Never use a messy recipe,
The cake will end up crazy
If you do the cooking by the book,
Then you’ll have a cake
We gotta have it made,
You know that I love cake
Finally, it’s time to make a cake
We gotta have it made,
You know that I love cake
Finally, it’s time to make a –
‘You gotta do the cooking by the book!’
Cake!

But the one I laugh at the most features Robbie Rotten (master of disguise) — in “You Are A Pirate”, superb stuff — enjoy–

Lyrics:

[RR] Do what you want ’cause a pirate lives free, you are a pirate!

[All] Yar har fiddle dee dee
[All] Being a pirate is all right with me
[All] Do what you want ’cause a pirate lives free
[All] You are a pirate!

[Robbie Rotten to Parrot] You are a parrot.
[All] Yar!

[RR] We got us a map
[All] A Map!
[RR] To lead us to a hidden box
[RR] That’s all locked up with locks
[All] With locks!
[RR] And buried deep away

[RR] We’ll dig up the box
[All] The box!
[RR] We know it’s full of precious booty
[RR] Burst open the locks
[All] And then we’ll say hooray!

[Stephanie] Yar har fiddle dee dee
[Stephanie] If you love to sail the sea (If you don’t lack self-esteem)
[Stephanie] You are a pirate

[RR] Weigh the anchor!

[All] Yar har fiddle dee dee
[All] Being a pirate is all right with me
[All] Do what you want ’cause a pirate lives free
[All] You are a pirate!
[All] Yard Arm Ahoo and Abast
[All] Drink a deep drink and then drink it too fast(?)
[RR] Hang the black flag at the end of the mast!
[All] You are a pirate!

[RR] Yarhahahahahar
[All] Yay!

[RR] We’re sailing away
[All]
Set sail!
[
RR] Adventure waits on every shore (A wench awaits on every shore)
[RR] We set sail and explore
[All] Yar har!
[RR] And run and jump all day
[All] Yay

[RR] We float in our boat
[All] The boat!
[RR] Until it’s time to drop the anchor
[RR] Then hang up our coats
[All] Ay-ay
[RR] Until we sail a-gain, hahar!

[Stephanie] Yar har fiddle dee dee
[Stephanie] If you love to sail the sea
[Stephanie] You are a pirate
[RR] Huh?

(record scratch)

[RR] Hey, what — Land ho!

[All] Yar har fiddle dee dee
[All] Being a pirate is all right with me
[All] Do what you want ’cause a pirate lives free
[All] You are a pirate!

[RR] Yar Har!
[RR] Wind at your back lads wherever you go!

[All] Blue sky above and blue ocean below
[All] You are a pirate!
[RR] Ha ha ha ha ha har
[All]
You are a pirate!
[
RR] Heheheheheh Hmm

I did a search for these lyrics on the web and almost all of them are wrong (or at least different from each other), what’s up with that? Are people deaf or something? I ended up just listening to the video myself, so “You Are A Pirate” Lazy Town Lyrics are as close as I can get them, only one line gave me a problem — it is marked with a (?), but I also came up with some alternatives I liked so I have put them in here! Arrr!

Olivia just LOVED Lazy Town Live! It was so amazing to see her change from fretful at the beginning to wildly excited. What a wonderful evening — and a great experience that I wouldn’t have missed for the world. It was hysterical to see so many wee Stephanie and Sportacus lookalikes. The only gripe I guess is that the Theatre did not sell “Sports candy” (fruit), but continued with sweets, ice cream and fizzy drinks!

Just stumbled across your site.
My daughter Ellie absolutely lives LazyTown.
Her favourite character is definitely Stephanie. She went to a fancy dress party recently dressed as her, wig and everything :)
