It is not only healthy, quick and delicious, it is also so easy to adapt.  I have turned it into a wonderful savoury herb affair, and also a delicious cake.  But first, the basic core recipe (which is just delicious in its own right)…

Yogurt aisle in Sainsbury'sI quite often look up recipes on the internet, but this brings in problems — not just translating between measurements, but also translating what things are called.  To be honest, this drives me crazy at times, and to make matters worse, some of the US American terms can actually be found in supermarkets over here!  For example, I can buy “Baking Soda” right from the shelf, yet it is a North American term for Bicarb!  I have seen Bistro menus in Glasgow using “Zucchini” instead of “Courgette”.  All the British and European supermarkets have signs above the aisles for “Yogurt“, only the American-owned ASDA uses the American spelling, “Yoghurt”. Yet it seems that “Yoghurt” (with the ‘h’) is proper English!

Yogurt aisle in TescoI guess if we were French, we would receive specially translated software, movies, novels and recipes.  The trouble with being British is that we just get the untranslated straight American stuff, and this makes us think we know what we’re talking about when we don’t always — I didn’t know they called Yorkshire Puddings “Pop-overs” until recently, and I have heard of “Scallions” for ages without knowing that this is simply syboes!  So I have decided here to put a table of terms in the hope that it might help someone sometime! Plain Banana Muffin recipe 2007/04/27

[banana muffins]This banana muffin mix is slightly different from Nutty Banana Muffins, as it does not fold in chopped walnuts — instead, each muffin is topped with a walnut kernel. It also uses self-raising flour giving them that ‘shop bought’ muffin look. When I made this recipe mixture, I made it in two batches, the first batch, I made in the morning, and followed the recipe by using paper cases in the tray, and they turned out great. (more…)

[nutty banana muffins]These Nutty Banana Muffins smell absolutely gorgeous, and are very quick and easy to make. You can substitute the walnuts for pecans, skip the coffee or use a dieting sugar substitute if you prefer; it’s all good.

Cooking Time: 25/30 mins.

[Picture of sliced up Fabby Fruity Fudge]Once upon a time I was getting myself all ready to make Mumsie’s Raspberry Fluff when I mistakenly bought a can of ‘Carnation Condensed Milk’ instead of Evaporated Milk. Put this down to a mummy-brain moment! Once I had bought the Evaporated milk and made the Fluff, I was left wondering what to do with this tin of Condensed Milk… then I remembered… Fabby Fruity Fudge! Of course! Obvious really. But for those unfamiliar with Fudgy matters…here’s the secret family recipe (ahem)…

Prep Time: 15 mins.,
Cooking Time: 10-15 mins.,

[Picture of Two Glasses of Alpokat Smoothie]Ever since my dad went to Indonesia he has talked about an avocado smoothie that he adored when he was there a few years ago. He has tried to get the same thing here, and even in America, but to no avail. I decided to have a look on the net and managed to find the recipe. Best Banana Bread 2006/07/10

This is really easy to make as there isn’t much prep or equipment needed — and rather delicious too. It doesn’t last long once it’s out the oven and the smell when it is baking is divine!

Cooking Time: 50/ 60 mins,
