Thanks to all our visitors over the years.  Don’t worry though – we’ll still keep this site going, it just won’t be our main “on-line thing”. All our subscribers already know where to go for the fun and games. We’ll still use private (hidden) stuff here – and the odd password-protected entry too – but in the main, we’ll be elsewhere as this wee blog has served us well over the years, it’s still here, just mainly as an archive.

I had a really nice chat with Oli about what games she played in the playground at school.  It was interesting to compare the games of today with what Mummy Ruth and I remembered of our playtime pursuits. (more…)

Happy New Year! 2013/01/01

Happy New Year!

Our superb children are now firmly established at school, full time, and we have a large, happy network in the local community. Last year, we spent a fortune renovating our home so we can enjoy it better and everything will last for years to come. Structural integrity is incredibly expensive and scary, but terribly important.

2012 was a year where everything just seemed to go our way, sometimes with a wee struggle (after all, we live in a world populated by the stupid and dysfunctional) , but most of the time it was plain sailing. Long may this trend continue!

[Photo of We Were Promised Jetpacks taken at ABCO2 gig in Glasgow]Yesterday was my main client’s Christmas work’s lunch. The entire office (about 40 of the Glasgow team plus  contractors/ freelancers) booked a “boutique hotel” (whatever that is) on Bath Street, and we had the usual sporadically served, cold Christmas rubbish food one has come to expect after years of experience.  (more…)

Strike! 2011/11/30

The children were off today from school and nursery because of the civil service strike action.

We really enjoyed meeting Daddy Dave at lunchtime in the bustle of the city centre, and everywhere just seemed different and fun.  I almost wished there were more strikes as it really was a special family time.

I don’t mean to disrespect the unions etc., but a lot of Daddy Dave’s work colleagues took the day off work for their kids, and all-in-all the feedback and vibe was very positive — which is a bit of a shame I suppose for the strikers!  I guess their aim was to disrupt and cause a fuss, but it seems to have given everyone an excuse for some family time, and the shops seem to have benefited from the unexpected Christmas shopping.

The amount of people I bumped into while shopping after lunch with the kids was unbelievable!  There was such a great spirit, and I think the strike has made us all feel a lot more Christmassy somehow.

[Poster of Micky Flanagan. Out Out Tour 2011]We got granny to babysit and headed for the King’s Theatre to see Micky Flanagan.  We paid over twenty quid to sit in the gods (aka “The Gallery”).  He had no support and did two parts with a 15 minute interval.  We were out before quarter to ten.  It was a Sunday night after all. Sunday was a Red Letter Day for us.  It was the day that DP learned to ride his bicycle without stabilisers. Yes! now all the family can ride bikes.

What we did was remove his pedals along with the stabilisers.  This gave him a “balance bike”. To be frank, purpose built balance bikes are a con when you think about it. (more…)

My CSCS card came though at last — I sat the Construction Skills Certification Scheme health and safety test for UK construction sites when my old one ran out after five years, so that’s me sorted out for another five — and THIS time my photo actually looks like me (gorgeous) LOL.

I need this so I can attend meetings on construction sites, and so that I can take sizes and check workmanship (as well as safe working practices).

I studied (more…)

Male Birth 2011/06/08

[Picture of typical big building site]Daddy Dave always says that building things is male birth — the male equivalent of giving birth.  Lots of screaming, months of gestation, hours of labour and lost sleep, anxiety, worry, feelings of impossibility and inevitability. Utter fear, then look at how wonderful this THING is — gorgeous in every detail!

Daddy Dave has handed over his workload for the past two-and-a-half-years ot the people who will develop it on and actually realise it.  It’s a pretty momentous occasion, and the feeling of stress-being-lifted is as clear as day.

This is a weird adjustment and realignment period for us.  This is Daddy Dave’s baby we’re talking about here — and it’s a real big one too.  It’s gonna change this city forever! Drinkiepoos anyone?

[scan of School Letter about Dental Care]Daddy Dave and I were pretty shocked with the latest missive from Olivia’s primary school. In Primary One, the very first year of schooling (children are four or five years of age, with baby teeth), just over half had normal teeth.  Of the 43.9 per cent of bad teeth, a whopping 14 per cent had severe decay!

In this day-and-age! Goodness me. The figures for the last year of the Primary school system — Primary Seven — is about the children’s adult set of teeth, so these kids get a wiped slate and a fresh start.

What a shame! The “bad teeth” numbers rose dramatically — what was 43.9 per cent in P1, has become nearly 81 per cent by P7. (more…)

Oli has always had sensitive skin, so we watch the washing and laundry products we buy and use.

However, eczema appeared on her wee hands, and so we have been using cream to moisturise and protect her skin there.

The eczema seemed to be getting worse of late, so I have been particularly attentive in applying the BP cream — that is until I read a scary article at (more…)

Window Cleaner 2010/08/10

It’s been a few years now since Ross Warden passed away, and we’ve since had our windows replaced with the latest double glazing.  But there are still ten massive windows to the front that require regular cleaning because of the traffic dirt.

So we have started a new window cleaning firm that charge just £6 to wash all the windows from outside using long step-ladders.

Still miss Ross.  In fact we added a comment to his obit site.
